Please share a memory of J. Maxine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
J. Maxine Stann of Calgary, Alberta and formerly of Rosthern, Saskatchewan, passed away on November 28, 2011 at the age of 83 years. She was predeceased by her father, John Stein; mother Maude; and brother Lloyd. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Steve; children Darcy (Mary Ellen), Colleen (Alex), and Darryl (Denita); grandchildren Bryanne and Thomas; brother Stacy Stein; and nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Maxine was born on June 13, 1928 in Simpson, Saskatchewan. During her formative years in Simpson, she was involved in the church choir, taught Sunday school and enjoyed softball and track & field. Upon completing high school, Maxine entered nurses training at Regina General Hospital and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1950. Maxine met her future husband Steve at a young people’s function at Carmichael United Church in Regina. On November 17, 1951 they were married, starting a life-long partnership that spanned over sixty years. Maxine and Steve moved to Rosthern in 1959, a community which they called home for half a century. Maxine was very devoted to her two professions – motherhood and nursing – and was always attentive to the welfare of others. She touched countless lives in her professional and personal life in Rosthern through her energetic involvement in the United Church, Women’s Service Club, SRNA Chapter, local and provincial IODE Chapters, and her 30-year career at Rosthern Union Hospital. Maxine was a close companion and confidante to many and always looked forward to cooking family favourites, knitting, gardening, curling and card games with friends. We have all been so richly blessed to have had Maxine in our lives as a dear wife, mother, Nana and friend. The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to all our relatives, friends and neighbors for their many acts of compassion and kindness. Heartfelt thanks are also extended to the warm and caring staff of McKenzie Towne Retirement Residence and the Chinook Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11.00 a.m. Memorial donations can be made in honour of Maxine to either the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan or the Alzheimer Society of Alberta.
