Obituary of Wallace SLATER
Please share a memory of Wallace to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wallace Slater of Calgary passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2011 at the age of 94 at his home at the Arbour Lake Seniors Residence.
Wallace was born in Cheshire, England during WWI. He volunteered to serve his country during WWII, and was assigned to Essential Service in the Home Guard and making munitions. In 1952 the family immigrated to Canada and arrived in Calgary by train and ship. Wallace built his own home where he resided for fifty-one years. He was a hard working and well respected employee of the University of Calgary for many years until his retirement in 1982. Wallace loved gardening, mountain trips, camping, walking, traveling the world, a good meal, but most of all he loved the time spent with his family. He was a gentleman in the true sense of the word. Wallace was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his youngest daughter Margaret (Garry); son-in-law Frank; two grandsons Alan (Michelle) and Mike (Julie); four great-grandchildren; the Brown family and numerous relatives and friends in England and friends in Canada. He was predeceased by his wife May in 1978, his oldest daughter Pauline in 2010 and his friend and companion Thelma Brown in 2004.
A Celebration of Wallaces Life was held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queens Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
