Obituary of Tarsem PARMAR
Please share a memory of Tarsem to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Tarsem Singh Parmar, son of the late Duman Singh Rana and Bhagwanti Parmar of the village Chagran, District of Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India passed away in Calgary, Alberta on Monday, February 27, 2012 at the age of 76 years.
After completing his B.A. and B.T. degrees, he taught in Punjab prior to immigrating to England in November 1964 and to Canada in January of 1966. He taught both English literature and history in Saskatchewan schools. The majority of his tenure was at the high school in the village of Dysart. In addition, he successfully coached many volleyball teams and was an accredited regional referee in volleyball. He also served as a volunteer firefighter. He was known as Semi to most of his Canadian friends and colleagues. After retiring from the teaching profession, Rajinder and Tarsem moved from Dysart to Regina, where he became a very active and respected member of the Indo-Canadian community. He became very involved with Regina Sikh Temple and served as President and Treasurer over the years. Another love in his life was music. He enjoyed playing the tabla and harmonium.
In 1996, Rajinder and Tarsem moved to Calgary where he continued his active participation as a member of the Dashmesh Cultural Centre. With Rajinders diagnosis of multiple myeloma in 2003, their roles reversed and he provided her with the support, care, devotion and strength that have allowed her to survive to this day.
Tarsem is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years Rajinder Kaur; loving daughter Harprit (Sandor) and grandsons Michael and Jonathan; loving sons Jodie (predeceased by daughter-in-law Fariba) and grandsons Nevin, Liam and Nolan; Mick (Andrea) and grandsons Ajay and Sammy; Sterling (Manjit) and grandson Jeevan and granddaughter Asha. Tarsem was predeceased by his two sisters Channan Kaur and Gurmit Kaur, his brothers Channan Singh and Harbhajan Singh Parmar. He leaves an indelible mark on all of our hearts and he will be forever missed.
Funeral Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queens Park Cemetery) on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 10:30 a.m
