Obituary of Alice NICHOLSON

Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The family of Alice Frances Nicholson (nee Kirwan) sadly announces her passing at the age of 98 in Calgary, AB on March 6, 2012. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Clyde, and is survived by her three sons, Peter (Michelle), Stuart (Monica) and Roger (Melanie) Nicholson, her brother Danny (Louie) Kirwan, her grand-children: Trevor (Tannis), Jim (Masa), Jody (Paulose), Sean (Michelle), Rob (Jennifer), Meg, Aimee, Ben and Mitch, and ten great-grandchildren. Mum was born in Kilmacthomas, County Waterford, Ireland, Oct. 11, 1913. She excelled at her studies, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in languages, then moved to London where she met and married Dad. Over the next 60 years his medical career led them to live in Trinidad, Stony Plain, Seattle, Edmonton, Victoria, and Calgary. Mum deeply loved her family and devoted her life to us. She was very generous, had a keen intellect, memory, and sense of humour, and enjoyed poetry, cooking, reading and bridge. She had a close, loving relationship with her grandchildren and often said that her family was her greatest blessing. We would like to thank the staff at Agapé Hospice, as well as her friends at The Edgemont residence, for their kind and compassionate care of Mum during these last few years. She will be dearly missed. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date. Memorial donations, if so desired, may be made to The Salvation Army. “And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; There midnight's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow, And evening full of the linnet's wings.” - W.B. Yeats, The Lake Isle of Innisfree
