Obituary of Beth EDIE
Please share a memory of Beth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Beth Ethel Edie of Calgary passed away at Brentwood Care Centre on September 13, 2013 at the age of 89 years after a seven year struggle against dementia.
Beth was a strong and vivacious wife and mother, athletic in her youth, which she pursued later in life through golf and square dancing, both of which she loved. Active in Parkdale United Church for many years as a member of UCW and as a leader of Explorers and CGIT, she and her husband Ralph travelled extensively around the world. Beth taught school at Grande Prairie and continued to pursue the path of helping throughout her life. Beth worked tirelessly as a mother and devoted many hours to service groups such as "Meals On Wheels", school cafeteria, United Church camp counselor, and a divisional chairperson for the United Way for numerous years. Beth also volunteered for several years as an assistant, teaching English to new Canadian children. She was passionate about politics and worked diligently for various candidates. Later in life, Beth and Ralph enjoyed wintering in Maui, Hawaii and in Phoenix, Arizona, spending time with good friends in both places. Beth will be greatly missed by her loving family.
Beth is survived by her four children, Bob (Beverly) Edie, Don (Joanne) Edie, Helen Edie and Deb (Tim) Lovejoy; grandchildren Allan Edie, Murray Edie, Jennifer Edie, Krista (Matt) Desjarlais, Carter Edie (Eva Wan), Colin (Alexandra) Edie, Cherise Lovejoy and Tyler Lovejoy; two great-grandchildren, Curtis Edie, son of Jennifer Edie, and Malcolm Edie, son of Colin and Alexandra Edie; as well as sisters-in-law Grace Edie and Kathy Thorne; brother-in-law Colin Edie; and several nieces and nephews.
Beth was predeceased by her loving husband Ralph in 2007, and her two brothers Robert Thorne and Selby Thorne.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at PARKDALE UNITED CHURCH, 2919 8 Avenue N.W. on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. Please forward condolences through www.hffs.com.
