Miguel was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. He moved to Toronto in 1972 and then Calgary in 1993. Miguel loved horse racing and was an avid book reader.
He leaves behind his sons Derek and Batch (Mel, and their two sons); grandchildren Desha and Chloe; brothers, Nonoy (Merci) and Rik (Yolly); sister Baby and many relatives in Canada, US and Philippines.
He is predeceased by his wife Aida; his parents Jose and Diana as well as his sister Ofie.
