Obituary of Elizabeth GERRARD

Betty Gerrard of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the age of 82 years after a brief illness. Betty was born September 15, 1929 in Nanton, Alberta to Elvin and Jessie Arnold. She married Carl Frederick Gerrard on April 30, 1949 and together they raised six children: Carol (Bob) Whitehead, Barb (Jim) MacCullough and Pat (Ken) McAlister, all from Calgary, Gary (Gail) Gerrard of Edmonton, Dave Gerrard of Drumheller and Dawne (Ray) Calvin of Crossfield. An only child herself, she was extremely proud of her large brood of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn her are cousins Donna (Jim) Rollier and Norman Davis, Carl’s brother Horace and sister Bette, a large extended Gerrard family, and past and present neighbours (from Hillhurst, Shaganappi and most recently her condominium at Whitehorn Calvanna Village) as well as numerous friends she collected along the way. Betty was predeceased by an infant daughter, Mary Lou in 1952, her father and mother in 1980 and 1994, and her husband Carl in 2003. Betty’s energy and zest for life were an inspiration to everyone, along with her eye for a bargain, sense of humour and compassion. Her past hobbies included bowling, darts, shuffleboard, and various needlecrafts. She had just recently learned to play poker with the social club at the condominium. A dedicated volunteer, she was a long time member of the ANAF Unit 2 Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion #284 and the CBs. Betty and Carl also made many lifelong friends during his 25 year career with the Calgary Police Service. An announcement will follow for a celebration of Betty and Carl’s lives to be held at a later date.
