Barbara Eve Beecher passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the age of 88 years. Barbara was born in Negri Sembalon, Fed. Malay States (now known as Malaysia) on August 18, 1923. She came to Canada with her parents and one sister in 1925, and the family settled in Harrop, BC. Barbara attended schools in Harrop, Procter, and Nelson, and later worked at Hoods Bakery, and BC Telephones in Nelson and Trail. In 1947, Barbara was crowned ‘Miss Nelson’- these she called her “Happy Years”. Barbara relocated to Calgary and worked for FW Clark & Co., and met and married Earl in 1952. Together they owned and maintained 40 acres near Balzac until Earl’s passing. She managed the 10 acres left, plus their home in Calgary. Barbara was active as a member and volunteer for many years with the Golden Age Club, and was also a long time member of the Inglewood Lawn Bowling Club. Barbara is survived by sons Ernie (Lorraine) of Airdrie, and Gregory of Penticton; grandchildren Aaron, Cody, and Chad of Airdrie, Kailyn and Riley of Penticton; sisters Lila Mickkelson and Marjorie Kehoe, both in BC. She was predeceased by her husband Earl on January 9, 1999, and by her brother Alan in July 2000.
