Rita McMullen, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the age of 89 years. Rita was born in Cockrane, Ontario to Mike and Pauline Cashaback. At the age of three they moved to Silverwood, AB where Rita went to school. In 1942, Rita moved to Dawson Creek, BC and there she joined the Mobile Unit of the C.W.A.C. She moved to Currie Barack and then to Esquimalt, B.C. where she was a transport driver, shuttling around the officers. In December 1945, she received an honorable discharge as a corporal. She became a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the R.C.L. branch #1 of Calgary, buying a membership for over 50 years. In 1966 she was awarded the C.K.X.L. radio station “Mother of the Year” award. Rita is survived by sons Bryan, George and Joe, daughter, Tammy as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her parents, three sisters and a brother. A private family service will be held.
