Obituary of Susan DICK

Susan Dick, beloved wife of Allan Dick of Calgary, AB, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at the age of 63 years. Susan grew up in St. Lambert, QC, and in 1967 moved with her family to Vancouver, BC where she completed high school and attended UBC (BA French/Political Science, 1972). It was in Vancouver that Susan and Al first met, and later married on October 27, 1973. They then moved to Calgary in 1974 where they built careers, a loving family and many friendships. Susan had a determination and spirit that built both a successful career and a loving family. It was this love of family that was her greatest motivation. It included involvement with the kids’ activities, swimming, scouts and baseball to name a few, as well as ski weekends, camping trips and summers at the lake. Together with Al she would also hike, kayak and cycle including many memorable trips to the USA, Mexico, South Korea, Germany and Italy. Susan is survived by her husband Al; son Jeff (Melanie); daughter Nancy (John); grandsons Matthew and Jeremy Dick; brothers Bruce (Margaret) Dunwoody and Colin (Heather) Dunwoody; special cousins Ian (Heather) Bourne and Jane (Ron) Krieg; Al’s family; nieces, nephews, and many valued friends. Susan was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Jean Dunwoody as well as brother-in-law John Timmermans. A Memorial Service will be held at Symons Valley United Church (38 Kincora Rise N.W.) on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Special thanks to Drs. Hao, Sinha, and Voroney, nurse Camelia Lee of the TBC Oncology Team, as well as the Palliative Home Care Team whose assistance ensured that Susan could rest peacefully at home.
