Dear Mrs. Longmore,
It was a sad moment when I opened my paper and saw the picture of Jake in the obituaries. Jake was my basketball coach during grade 12, my first real coach, and he had a life long effect on me.
I believe it was he who hired me to teach in Victoria. He was the assistant superintendent in 1966. That was 49 years ago. I am retired now, but remember the good old days with Jake on the bench yelling, "Move your feet and don't foul, Jack.." Those days with the G.F.H.S. Wolvers were special and Jake made them so. Your team dinners, Eva, were even more fun than the games, unless it was the game when we beat his previous team...Osyosos. Please extend my condolences to MaryAnn and the rest of your family. MaryAnn played against one of my teams in the 1970's.
Yesterday while sitting with my mother at St. Mary's I mentioned Jake's passing and she asked me to mentioned her thoughts and memories to you. She knows how hard it is to lose you life long mate. As ever, Jack Lusk.

My condolences on your loss. I had the privilege to work with Jake when he was Superintendent at the Calgary Board of Education and I know he was one of the people who had a significant influence on my career growth. I have some very good memories of those years. I am sorry that I lost contact during the many years since. I caught up with Jake in 1988 during the Calgary Winter Olympics but moved to BC a couple of years later. You can be very proud of your husband and father.

Jake and I were engaged together in the work of public education when he was Chief Superintendent for the Calgary Board of Education and I was Minister of Education. He was a fierce advocate of public school education and of adequate response to the needs of Calgary's students. We sometimes had great disagreements which we could or could not reconcile, but I never doubted his commitment to his vocation. He was a gentleman.

It was sad to read Jake's obit in today's paper. Mr. Longmore, as he was called, was our first basketball coach at Osoyoos Elementary some 64 years ago. He left a lasting impression and kindled a lifetime interest in the sport. If there are hoops in Heaven, may all your shots,, Jake, be swishers.

Dear Eva,
I was saddened to read in the Times Colonist that Jake had died. My grade six teacher is gone! I have fond memories of my time in his class as well as the excellent coaching he gave us in sports. Of course I also recall travelling with you and Jake to Trail one summer so I could stay with friends there.
I was particularly pleased to again be involved with you both when I spoke in Calgary in my capacity as Ambassador to NATO and to visit with you both in your home.
I will be with you in spirit on Saturday when at the Public Reception and send you my heart felt condolences.
With warm regards,
John.

Please accept my sincere sympathy.
Jake gave much to many.
We worked together on the Grandstand Committee supporting the
10-day Show extravaganza and the Young Canadians of the Calgary
Stampede. Jake worked tirelessly to get approval for school credits
for the Young Canadians training at the school for performing arts.
Jake's service in both the Air Force and Navy made him the ideal liaison to the Canadian Military on Park. His initiatives heightened their profile and brought
respect and admiration to the services from thousands.
Jake was a man of his word, who displayed diligence and professionalism in all he did, respected his fellow man, brought a wonderful sense of humour to the table, and served others in a humble and unassuming manner.
It was a privilege to know him. May he rest in peace knowing his good work has benefited many.

Proud to call Jake my friend as we shared many laughs and memories over the years. We worked together at with the Grandstand Committee and he was wise counsel to me on so many things. He was a strong and focused person and was a great example for me to learn from. My thoughts are with the family. Cheers Jake - to a life well lived!
