Obituary of Raj GUPTA

Raj Gupta, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at 8:57 AM on May 16, 2015 at the age of 82 years. She was the beloved wife of S.K. Gupta who will feel the emptiness in his life after almost 58 wonderful years of marriage. She will be deeply missed by her daughter Mridula (Merge) Gupta-Sunderji, her son-in-law Alkarim Sunderji, her son Pradeep (Fred) Gupta, her daughter-in-law Sunita Gupta, her granddaughters Grismika and Manisha, her grandson Chetan, and other family members and friends around the world. Raj lit up so many lives during her stay here on earth. No matter where she traveled in the world, her gentle manner and positive attitude touched everyone she met in a way that immediately endeared her to them. People were drawn to her initially because of her elegance and poise, but they stayed close by because of her warmth and grace. She was always seeking out opportunities to help others and give of herself. Some of her happiest moments were spent doing the things that mattered most to her – cooking for her family (her culinary skills were legendary), sewing (she loved designing and sewing for her daughter, daughter-in-law and grandchildren), gardening (her rose garden when she lived in Nigeria was famous), and meditating (Swami Sri Sathya Sai Baba guided her in her life's journey). Her strength of character allowed her to overcome many challenges that came her way, including several health-related issues in her later years. The example she set in sincerity, courage and tenacity is the legacy that she leaves for her family and friends. Funeral services for Raj will be held at Calgary Crematorium Chapel, 3219-4th Street NW (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery) on Wednesday May 20 at 2 PM.
