Obituary of Carole Lynn HANDY (nee Fanning)

Carole Lynn Handy of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully in the company of her son on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the age of 73 years. Carole grew up in Nanton, attended the University of Calgary and obtained her Master’s Degree in Sociology. Following graduation she pursued her passion to teach and joined the faculty of Social Sciences at Mount Royal College where she taught Sociology until her retirement. Carole reached out to children through her volunteer time at the Calgary Public Library. She spent many enjoyable hours reading to her young audiences, encouraging them to read and write. Anyone who knew her will remember her for her love of animals, particularly dogs. Carole also enjoyed gardening in her later years and being in the company of her close friends. Carol is survived by her son, Gregory John Heath and his wife Amber Lynn, grandson Liam, sister Doreen (John) Greffen, as well as nephews Michael and Mark Greffen and Greg and Ward Fanning. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Charles Kenneth Handy, and her brother, Dr. Vernon Fanning, whom she adored and was inspired by. Funeral Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
