Obituary of Hazel Ardel Barbara OSTLER

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Hazel Ostler (Proctor) announces her passing on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the age of 85. Hazel touched so many lives in her 85 years. She will be sadly missed and greatly remembered by those who had the fortune to meet and be loved by her. Hazel was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and dear friend to many. An award winning, well-known jazz & blues singer who regularly performed at many venues in Calgary, as well as festivals and shows across the world; her voice enriched the hearts and souls of many. The heavens are now blessed with her generous spirit and compassionate voice. Hazel is survived by her brother Larry Proctor, sister Frances Proctor, children William and Karon Hayes, grandchildren Will Hayes, Steve and his wife Brooke Russell, Owen and Lauren Russell, Tacita Warden and Austin Hayes; her great-grandchildren Deshaun, Breannah, Kairell, Danny, Deimonee, Dawn, Trish, Braxton, Sheena, Kingston, Lonnie, Adrian and Renee; as well as her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Hazel was predeceased by her husband James Douglas Ostler, parents Bertrand and Idabelle Proctor and her daughter Laura Hayes. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so through a public viewing at Calgary Crematorium & Funeral Chapel - 3219 - 4th Street N.W. (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery) on Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 10:00 am. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Son and staff at the Peter Lougheed Center, unit 23 for their compassion and care.
