I met Paul Schwab in August 1967 at the Slocan Inn of which he was part owner. His wife was working there and their 3 children, Frank, Ute and Heidi helped out as well. Another part owner, the architect I worked for at the time, went to Europe on a honeymoon and I ended up coming to the Inn to help out also.
This is where I met one of the staff, Mary Jane Stewart, a cook’s helper, and she would move to Trail B.C. and become my wife in April of 1968. We currently live in Calgary.
Our condolences to the family during this time.

I first met Paul at a bank in Fernie. He was the contractor and I was a surveyor's helper. We had returned to the basement of the bank under construction to figure out how to get the sewer line and sewage from the bank UP to the sewer line in the lane. Oooops! Must be a survey mistake says Paul. No, a pipe laying faux par says Dave. Paul, with his great laugh and smile had already figured out how to solve the problem - a pumping line. But who is going to pay? Being young and naive, my face dropped. Paul, noticing my dilemma, walks away saying, "the beer young man, who is paying for the beer?"
Many months later, I met Frank Schwab and we became friends and of course I had already met his Dad and knew what a kind and caring man he was. We saw Paul, Lee and family frequently while they lived in Nelson.
Our thoughts are with you while you celebrate Paul's life.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Schwab's passing. I met him in the early 80's when my daughter and I rented a duplex from him. We stayed there for 11 years, and over those years we got to know Mr. Schwab fairly well. He was always willing to sit and chat for a bit. I will always remember him as being a very nice gentlemen. My sincerest condolences to the Schwab family.
