Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SCHWAB, Paul December 30, 1926 – Tattenitz, Sudetenland June 29, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta Paul Schwab, our mountain of a man, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2016. Paul came to Calgary in 1952 with Lieselotte after earning his agricultural degree. Soon after arriving in Canada he established himself as a successful building contractor in Alberta and BC. His building repertoire included hospitals, schools, swimming pools, curling rinks, churches, nursing homes…….and banks! In 1963 he became a Bowness alderman and played a key role in annexing Bowness to Calgary. He is credited with saving the lives of several nearly drowning children whom he pulled from the Bow River. Although he lived in Nelson BC for several years, he thought of Calgary as home and volunteered with several non-profit organizations in the City including the Calgary Association of Self Help and the German Seniors Club. Opa will be dearly missed by his 3 children, Ute (Jose), Frank and Heidi; 8 grandchildren, Jeff, Lisa, David, Danila, Paul, Kelsey, Rebecca and Brenna; and 6 great-grandchildren, Clara, Sophia, Edmund, Anna, Betty and Louella. Thank you Opa, for coming to Canada! Paul was very happy at the Carewest Sarcee Hospice and our family is grateful for the excellent care he received there during his final days. Paul’s Memorial Service will be held at the Austrian-Canadian Society Cultural Centre (3112 – 11 Street N.E) July 30 at 2:00 p.m.
