As a former principal of Parkdale Elementary school I have very fond memories of Jackie. She was an outstanding teacher. Not only did she have a strong understanding of curriculum she was one of those teachers who understood that effective pedagogical relationships were at the base of learning. She knew and cared about every student. When I worked with her she was an experienced teacher who was still open to new ideas. Jackie incorporated new ways of teaching math and language arts for instance without letting go of proven traditional methods. She was also creative. I shall ever remember her determined acquisition of owl pellets to invite students into studying "Owls in the Family". In her classroom students were engaged in an environment where learning and everyone in that room were respected.
She was also a collaborative, positive staff member and I'm grateful for that as well. I am richer for having known her.

My sincerest condolences to your family members on the passing of Mrs. Parks.
I was a Parkdale Elementary School student in the 1970s and I have very fond memories of Mrs. Parks. She truly did care about her students as if we were her own, and like many others I'm certain, she contributed significantly to my early education and the development of a love for learning that established a sound foundation for my future adult life.
I have one quick but memorable anecdote to share. I think it was in Grade 3 and I can remember being frightened in the first week of a new school year by this new Grade 3 teacher who was 'mean and yelled at us' (that's what I told my mother). I remember one day summoning the courage to go and speak with the other kindly Grade 4 teacher, Mrs. Parks, to see if she would accept me and allow me to transfer to her class. Can you imagine that conversation when I was only in grade 3/4 and what Mrs. Parks must have thought?!! And furthermore, can you imagine that awkward conversation that followed with her new Grade 3/4 teaching colleague?
Well as her family members might expect, Mrs. Parks was empathetic, understanding and wonderful to me, and assured me she could take care of it. The next day I was moved over and spent an immensely enjoyable year under Mrs. Parks' tutelage. She set aside that professionally awkward situation with her new colleague to do what she felt was in the students' best interest. I've never forgotten that gesture.
Thank you for sharing Mrs. Parks with us. She made an enormous difference in this world for so many.
My sincere sympathies on your loss.
