Obituary of Keith Andrew Haydn SMITH

Keith Smith of Calgary Alberta passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family on Thursday, August 4, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer. Keith’s passion in life was music. He was an extremely talented jazz guitarist who had a profound impact on the Jazz community in Calgary. He was adored and respected by all that were lucky enough to meet, gig with or be taught by him. He poured his passion into everything he did, which can now be fondly remembered by the many recordings he made throughout the years. The music community was also his family and are also mourning the loss of such an incredible man. Keith’s immediate family is humbled to hear of the ‘Keith Smith Memorial Scholarship Program’ being introduced by yycJAZZ and look forward to hearing of the future generations inspired by Keith in the music world. Outside of music Keith also researched and pursued many other interests, including engineering, electronics, drafting, millwright, and photography. All in which he was equally talented, and gave the same enthusiasm and dedication to all his passions. Friends of Keith will remember deep, intimate conversations in which he always had an opinion as well as an open mind. He was truly a blessing to all who knew him. Keith will be dearly missed by his children, Morgan (wife Erin and granddaughters McKenna and Nora), Cameron (Spouse Pabla and her daughter Isabel Sophia) and Allison (spouse Murtaza); as well as his sisters, Pat Schuessler and Jennifer Law. He was predeceased by his wife Geraldine in 2002, it is a comfort to everyone knowing that they are together once again. A Memorial Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Following the Memorial Service, family and friends are invited to meet with the family for a reception at Slaughter House Studios, 4223 16 St S.E. from 6:00 p.m. onward.
