Obituary of Shauna Kathleen POLINI
Shauna Polini, beloved wife of Anthony Polini of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at the age of 39 years.
As an independent life-long learner, Shauna graduated from UBC, after which she spent three years in Japan teaching English. While in Japan she developed international friendships which continue today. Upon her return to Canada, she obtained her International Trade and Transportation Logistics Certificate from BCIT. With this in hand and moving to Alberta, Shauna was employed with several large international and local firms, eventually leading to her current role as a Senior Principal Consultant with Inspirage, specializing in client-based trade management software implementation. Shauna believed in workplace diversity and was a big proponent of women working in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Shauna loved her career and was well respected for her leadership, broad knowledge and solution-finding skills.
Shauna was a voracious reader who loved diverse genres. Her creative talents and interests included gardening, crafting with friends, and cooking and travelling with Anthony. She had a unique eye for recognizing the small details in the moment, which she captured in photos.
Shauna was a generous and compassionate woman who felt a strong need to give back and support where she knew she could have a meaningful and direct impact. Starting in February of 2016, as mentors, Shauna, Anthony and Zach enjoyed introducing Calgary and Canada to a newly arrived family of eight from Syria; this relationship continues today.
Shauna is survived by her beloved husband Anthony (Zach, Max, Eli); parents Richard and Janet McCluskey and brother Alexander McCluskey (Diane) of Prince Rupert, BC; her special girls Juno and Cleo; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Shauna will be deeply missed by her mother-in-law Anna Polini; brothers-in-law Nick Polini (Julie) and Ebs Polini (Val); sister-in-law Laura Capone (Joe); and many nieces and nephews in Calgary, and friends from around the world.
A Memorial Service will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4th Street N.W., (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made in Shauna’s memory directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca.
Shauna and her family would like to acknowledge the expert and compassionate care received at the Foothills Medical Centre, from doctors, nurses, therapists, and the entire support staff in the ICU and especially Unit 112, which Shauna called home for the last nine months. Her journey was made better by the support and encouragement from so many special people too numerous to list here, who will always have a special place in our hearts.
