Obituary of Durdica "Georgina" Ana POSAVEC

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, cousin and friend Durdica “Georgina” Posavec of Calgary, on June 29, 2019 at the age of 80.

Georgina was born in Croatia.  She graduated Yugoslav languages and literature from the University of Zagreb and briefly worked as a teacher in Rijeka.  In 1966 she and her daughter Leonila joined Georgina’s mom, the late Marica Duh, in New York City.  There she studied at Hunter College and worked at Bellevue Hospital as a social worker.  In 1972 Georgina moved to Toronto and in 1981 to Calgary, where she lived since.  She worked as a travel agent in both Toronto and Calgary.  Georgina also worked in the hospitality industry and was awarded the Alberta Hotel and Lodging Association Gold Key Award for her dedication and leadership.

Georgina was a proud member of the local Croatian community and volunteered as a co-host on the weekly show Hrvatski Radio on CJSW Radio.  In her later years she enjoyed summer vacations in Vrbnik, on the island of Krk, Croatia, with her late husband Josip Kauzlaric.

Georgina was a radiant, warm, generous and compassionate person who loved life and people and made friends wherever she went.  She lived a good and eventful life, and her home and heart were always open for her children, grandchildren, and numerous relatives and friends.  

Georgina will be greatly missed by her daughters Leonila (John), Maya and Anna (Steve); grandchildren Kesten, Kaitlin, Heather, Ruby and Charlie; cousins Jadranka and Darko; long-time friends Ana, Branka, Dragica, Manda, Marija, Nada and Peter, as well as numerous other friends and relatives in both Canada and Croatia.

Funeral Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 – 4^th Street NW, (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.

Graveside Service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery, 3219-4^th Street NW on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. 

The family would like to thank the staff of the Bethany Care Centre and Dr. Vujanovic for their help and kindness during the two years she spent in their care.
