Obituary of Dick Wilcox

It is with profound sadness that the family of Richard Wilcox, beloved husband of the late Marlys Wilcox (nee Murphy) of Calgary, announces his passing after a brief illness on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the age of 88 years.

Dick grew up as a classic son of the prairies. Born into the depression, he and his family survived tough times using the strength of love and ingenuity in the face of poverty. He met the love of his life, Marlys, at a dance at Ma-Me-O Beach in 1951. They had an amazing life together. They loved to entertain, travel, and play crib & Scrabble. They were very dear companions to each other.

He spent thirty-nine years in the printing trade, working at North Hill News for much of his working life, ending as General Manager.

Dick’s last ten years were spent at the Lodge at Valley Ridge where he made so many wonderful friends. They kept his life meaningful and busy.

Marlys always said Dick was a gentle man.... and a gentleman.

We will miss him terribly.

Dick is survived by his eight loving children: five daughters, Marilyn (Steve), Linda (Lucien), Gwen (Neil), Donna (Fred), and Kathy, and three sons Tim (Shelly), Joseph (Michele) and James (Linda); fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Marlys in 2009, his parents George and Muriel, and his three brothers, Warren, William, and Robert.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church (2424 – 24th Avenue NW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, December 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at Calgary Crematorium Reception Centre, 3219 – 4^th Street NW, (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery)  at 12:30 p.m.
