Obituary of Elizabeth Ann McDougall

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Liz McDougall, beloved wife of Rod McDougall of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at the age of 66 years.

Liz was born to Jack and Elsie Russell in Lachine, Quebec and grew up in Bristol and Shawville, Quebec. She attended Pontiac High School, Carleton University, and University of Alberta (BSc. in Nursing) and Athabasca University (MN).

Along with her roles of wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Liz enjoyed a long career as a Registered Nurse. Her career began in areas of mental health, maternal child and home care. Later in her career she taught nursing, worked in health prevention primarily with children and families living in vulnerable situations and consulted on community development initiatives.

Liz experienced a very full life embracing whatever came her way. The way she lived her life demonstrated how not to flinch from reality, but to face it with courage and grace, make the very best of it and share the wisdom and learning that comes from life’s journey - the peaks, valleys and all that is in between. She valued her health challenges as something to be grateful for as this led her on a spiritual path and understanding the value of love, connection and living in the moment.

People who knew her will fondly remember her cheerful nature, her infectious laugh and above all, her generous spirit.

Liz is survived by her husband, Rod McDougall and children, David (Sarah Ward) McDougall, Laura (Beamer) Comfort, and Andrew McDougall. She is also survived by her cherished grandson Jack Comfort; and siblings Don (Roxanne) Russell, Tom (Pina) Russell, John (Bridgid Devlin) Russell and Debbie (Thor) Thorsteinson . She leaves behind treasured nephews, nieces and friends.

She is predeceased by her father Jack, mother Elsie, and infant daughter Sarah.

At Liz’s request, there will be no public funeral service.
