Obituary of Karen Lucille Pedersen

Please share a memory of Karen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Karen Pedersen who on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 went to be with the Lord.

Karen is survived by her husband and soul mate, Greg Pedersen, and three children Brian, Kevin (Julia) and, Kari (Jason) and her beautiful granddaughter, Arabella and ‘grand-dog’ Koko. As well as her brother Brian (Lynda) McCorquodale, sister, Patricia (Dave) Rooney and sister-in-laws Susan (Bill) Verran and Deb McCorquodale. Karen was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Blanche as well as her brother, Larry.

Karen always lived her life with immense positivity, and her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and travelling the world with her husband. Karen took great pride in the relationship she had with each of her children, always taking time to nourish those relationships and stay close with her children through each stage of their lives. When Karen gained a daughter-in-law and son-in-law she accepted them into her family as if they were her own with the most unconditional love. Becoming a grandmother to Arabella was one of the happiest and proudest moments of Karen’s life.

In 1981, Karen married the love of her life, Greg, and their relationship was truly incredible to witness, the friendship and love they had for each other only grew over the years and their morning coffees were a passion that they passed on to their kids, who also looked forward to coffee dates with their parents.

Karen has countless friends who will miss her terribly, including her group of high school friends who never lost touch, her running group she spent most weekdays with at the Calgary Winter Club, and her friends in the Art community her and Greg were so passionate being a part of.

Karen’s children were so proud of their mom, especially the unique way she touched every person she met. Karen had an impact on every person she came into contact with, and had a special spot in her heart for her extended family and multiple nieces and nephews: Damon, Michael (Michelle), Kim (Mark), Luke (Kaleigh), Liam, Hope, Tara, Michael (Sha), Don (Sarah), and Debbie (Richard).

Karen will be missed every day by her family. And there will be no way to fill the void that Karen leaves in their hearts, but if you knew her, we ask you to share memories of her over a cup of coffee as her family will continue to do.

We want to send a special thank you to her medical team, including, Dr. Heather Downes, Dr. Sarah Glaze, and all the nurses on unit 42 at the foothills hospital, especially Trinity who brought Karen so much comfort while she was in the hospital.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200 – 325 Manning Rd. N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 2P5 Telephone: (403) 205-3966, email donorservices@cancer.ab.ca.
