Matthew, “No Name”, I miss you with all of my heart. I love you with all of my heart. I will forever think of you. You came into my life by living with Courtney, Celeste and I. You made me laugh. You made me cry. I am honoured that you always visited me or phoned me. You loved the little gifts I gave you as well as the ham, potatoes and cream corn I made you. I miss our talks. You loved your family. You were one of the most solid people I knew. Thank you Newman for allowing me to be a part of your life.

My thoughts and prayers to the Newman family. I went to HS with Matt and even still after all these years I can remember how much energy he had and how vibrant he was. He had an ability to make his way into many groups and made friends simply by creating laughter. You’ll be missed man. God bless.

Brian, Terry, Sara and Chelsea – we can’t begin to express to you all our deepest and sincerest condolences, and sadness, on Matt’s passing. It is just unbelievable that he is gone. After reading all that has been written here about Matt, it is clear that our feelings and memories of Matt are echoed by those who knew him. His kind heart, love of life (and a good time!), and his generous spirit will be what people remember about him. It makes me so proud of him, and more sad all at the same time. Paul and Matt had a friendship – checking in with one another every once in a while. Those texts and phone calls mean so much more now – Paul feels lucky to have had those moments with him. Always remember that Matt was a good person. He will be greatly missed. We love you all.

It is with such sorrow I learn of your loss. There are no words that can comfort you. Grief has a life of it's own. Know that the love which surrounds you from your family and friends will somehow sustain you. There is no beginning and there is no end. Only love and peace in the Ever After. From my heart to yours, Susan Newman

Matt was always a great neighbour, and a dear friend. He was always willing to lend a hand, and never shied away from hard work. We spent countless afternoons and weekends tackling all sorts of projects around the neighbourhood, sharing laughs and good times. His love of animals and his grandmother was truly admirable, always making sure they came first. Even upon moving to BC, we still kept in touch weekly, him giving me updates on his condition and construction side jobs, asking for advice and making sure I was doing well out here. He really cared for his circle of friends and family, and it showed immensely. He always kept a calendar full of our birthdays, and never missed a call or text when those days came up. Always a character, I looked forward to our calls to see what kind of calamity had occurred and how he managed to come out unscathed. Every trip I made back to Alberta, he would go out of his way to make accommodations for me, and strive to be as hospitable as possible. We spent a lot of evenings together, planning future projects and talks of moving to BC, in pursuit of a better life. Despite his afflictions over the last several years, it never changed who he was deep down, something that always resonated with me. Despite the overwhelming grief And sadness I’m feeling, it’s assuring to know he’s not struggling or in pain anymore.
Take care, my friend. I hope you’re surrounded by kitties and loved ones. I’ll miss you dearly.
Eli.

My deepest and sincerest condolences to the Newman family. A loss of a loved one is heartbreaking and I am heart broken alongside with you. I can honestly say that Matt was one of the most unique person I have had pleasure of calling a friend. He was a loving and caring person. He had the unique ability befriend everyone around him just like his sister Sara. He had an infectious laugh and was a incredible story teller. He went out of his way to help and protect the people he loved. I will always remember him and the fun memories we shared as friends. When all our friends would go camping together Matt would be the person with a chainsaw and a generator to make sure we would have enough firewood. And we share many stories around fire with him. I remember the time he made us giant zenga and brought it camping so we would have a great time with everyone. That was Matt, a caring and a fun loving person. Thank you Matt for the memories we will cherish. Rest easy.

Where to start.... Matt moved into a house behind me in bayside and we became instant friends!! He was always so helpful and quick to jump into action! He always had a story and his laugh was so pure and contagious. If I needed something he had it, if I needed a hand he was there!! Without out a doubt the most selfless human I have met. If Matt had 5$ and you needed 5$ he gave it to you. This breaks my heart as he truly was a unique and tremendous human. His first words to my new born son were I hope you look like your mom when you get bigger hahaha.. if there is a service I’d like to attend if possible please!!

My name is Joan Prince. I am the mother of Matt’s former neighbours Chris & Nora Snow. Every encounter with Matt was a pleasant experience, he was kind, respectful and a true gentleman. His willingness to help never went unnoticed and his presence in the neighborhood was so appreciated by many. Our grandson Samuel met Matt on several occasions and they struck up a friendship. Sadly Sam passed away on May 24, 2020 at the age of 21 of an accidental overdose. On meeting Matt one day at my daughters house, I was truly in awe of his genuine expression of sympathy at our deep loss. He understood the depth of family and how Sam’s passing devastated his grandfather and myself. Sam was our only grandson and with us since the day he was born. Matt knew we did everything humanly possible to help Sam, including tough love and making choices that we felt were right at the time. Sadly, it was not to be and we lost him. I understand your pain at losing a child. As I journey through my grief, I can only say in time, you will find a way to cope and everyone’s journey will be different. I try to remember the happier times, before the addiction, because that’s not who he was. I would like believe Sam was there to meet Matt when he relocated to his heavenly home. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. My deepest condolences on the passing of your son and brother, a gentle, funny soul who will be sadly missed.

My sincerest condolences Terry and Brian, and to the rest of the Newman family and friends.
Although I didn't know Matthew for very long; in that recently short period, I was fortunate enough to have shared plenty of good laughs and wonderful moments with him that I will cherish and which will allow me to never forget him. He treated me like a brother from the very second I met him. One fond memory I won't forget, is when he came out to help me cut some trees down and chop them up last summer. He decides to chop the first tree down with an axe rather than the chainsaws we had ready to go... 30mins later, he is still going at it with the axe, chopping away, refusing to give up and give in. 45min mark- down goes the tree. Matt was so pumped that he was ready to take down the next. He was a resilient and tenacious man of many skills and willing to help with whatever whenever he could. By the time we parted ways, my cheeks were painfully sore from his constant entertainment.
I will never forget his infectiously hilarious laugh, along with that gleaming smile that followed. He was quite a character, loving to joke around and always having a story to tell. He was a kind, good-hearted person and will be immensely missed.
May you rest in peace brother.

Matt was a deeply loved brother and friend who truly lived life in his short 37 years with us. His charisma and enthusiasm were unmatched and the memories are countless. He really took the time to get to know people and make them feel special; often turning the most random of strangers in to fast friends. Always with an entertaining, larger than life story to keep the party going. Plus, he made the best animal calls... they may not have been very accurate, but they were the best!
I am truly saddened by this loss. I will remember Matt fondly for all the good times, laughs, feats of strength, more than occasional frustrations, but most of all, his caring and gentle heart.
Miss ya buddy

My deepest condolences to the Newman family. Matt was such a fun and caring guy who brought joy and laughter to every social gathering he was at. My fondest memories of Matt was when he would come camping out in BC with friends and he would always be the life of the party. He was the kind of guy who would take the shirt off his back for anyone and truly had the biggest heart. I remember joking, singing and laughing the night away around the fire with Matt - he truly was a one of a kind soul who made such positive impact on people. Matt will truly be missed by so many.

We would like to give our deepest sympathies to The Newman Family.
Matt has been our friend and neighbour for the past 5 years. To us it felt like he was part of the family. He seemed to almost never miss a birthday party or BBQ we would have.
Matt had the biggest personality with a smile and laugh to match it.
Matt was always up for a new adventure. Wherever this new adventure takes him I wish him nothing but peace and love.
Matt will be deeply missed by alot of people.
