Obituary of Brian Campbell Foster

Brian Foster, beloved husband of Deborah Lynn Foster (nee Cheple) of Nordegg, AB, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021, at the age of 69 years.

 

Brian was born at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary, AB, on January 20, 1952.  He attended Crescent Heights High School.  In 1974 he graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology.  He then went on to pursue his Doctorate at the University of Alberta, where he received his PhD in Pharmaceutical Science in 1982.

 

Brian married Deborah Lynn Cheple in 1983 in Edmonton, AB.

 

He moved to Ottawa, Ontario, in 1984, where he did his post-doctoral fellowship with Agricultural Canada.  From 1986 to 2012 he was a Research Scientist and Senior Science Advisor for Health Canada in the Therapeutic Products Directorate.  He is an Adjunct Professor in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa.  His research publication record is one hundred and fourteen scientific publications with two thousand nine hundred and seventy-six citations.

 

Brian had a passion for cooking, canoeing, and camping.  He enjoyed Irish music, gardening, and watching his nephew Robert play polo.  He enjoyed having a “wee dram” of Irish Whiskey.  He has been described as a man of kind demeanor, brilliant, compassionate, warm-hearted, family oriented, generous and lover of music.  Brian built his retirement dream home in Nordegg and moved in full time in 2020.

 

Besides his loving wife, Brian is survived by his daughter, Meredith Foster (James Hollahan) of Whistler, BC, and numerous extended family and friends.

 

Brian was predeceased by his father, Robert (Bob) Foster; mother, Sara Ethel Campbell; sister, Eileen Ethel Burton, and brother, Robert (Roy) Stuart Foster.

 

A Celebration of Life for Brian will take place at the CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219-4th Street NW (within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 10:30 am. Family and friends are invited to join Dr. Foster’s service streamed live (see below) on the day of the service. For those who are unable to view live, a recording of the service will be posted.

 

Those attending will be asked to confirm one of the following, (A) COVID vaccination (date requested), OR (B) a negative COVID test (within 72 hours), OR (C) Medical exemption AND valid government identification (with name & date of birth) OR (D) under 12 years of age.
