Obituary of Victor FORTINSKI

Please share a memory of Victor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, Victor Fortinski , Sr. on May 18, 2014 at the age of 89 years. Victor has gone to be with his loving wife, Helen, of 59 years who passed away almost 4 years ago. Victor passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. Victor was born on October 5, 1924 in Rowno, Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1951 with his wife Helen, sons Victor Jr. and Chester, his mother-in-law Emilia Iglinski, and brother-in-law Bert Iglinski. They first arrived in the Diamond City, Alberta area and eventually moved to and settled in Calgary. Dad was a kind, gentle and easy-going man always ready to help others. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his many friends. One of his favorite past times was going on camping holidays with his family and friends to the Okanagan and Vancouver Island. Victor volunteered his time tirelessly to the SPK Polish Combatants Association in Calgary and served as President of the Association for many, many years. He was fortunate to have met and made many friends in Alberta and across Canada during his term as President and his affiliation with the Association. His kind and peaceful nature will be remembered always by the family. Victor was predeceased by his loving wife Helen and his son, Chester, and will be greatly missed by his children Victor Jr. (Beverley), Susan (Steve) and Edward (Carolyn); grandchildren Kevin (Helen), Todd (Lyne), Kari (Nuno), Christopher (Jenna), Robin (Roberto), Rebecca (Garth) and six great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their thanks and deepest gratitude to all the staff at the Mount Royal Care Centre for their caring of our Dad. Also, our thanks to Dr. Kristine Cerny and the staff on Unit 83 of Rockyview Hospital for their comfort and care during his last hours. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 1708 – 16th Avenue N.W. (across from the North Hill Shopping Centre, Calgary) on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2111 Uxbridge Drive N.W. on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow in “St. Joseph’s Section” at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
