Obituary of Janice Elaine Holloway

Please share a memory of Janice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Janice Holloway, of Calgary, passed away on March 2, 2022, at the age of 70, following a valiant battle with cancer. Janice was born in Edmonton and completed her schooling at Ross Sheppard High School. Eager to explore the world with her community friends, she first worked as a mail carrier to fund her desire to travel Asia and Europe. Eventually, with encouragement from her grandmother and close friends, she decided to become a teacher, graduating from the University of Calgary with a B.Ed. and M.Ed.

Janice taught for the CBE in many elementary schools for over 25 years. After retiring from the principalship of Keeler School, she accepted a new role at Bow Valley College leading the Education Assistant Program. Continuing her passions for travel and teaching, Janice visited Spain each year where she taught English and traveled throughout Europe with old friends and new. Other pastimes that gave her joy were yoga and skiing. Janice completed her yoga teacher training and spent many years practicing at Yoga Passage. She loved her ski pals and regular trips to the mountains.

In 2016, Janice’s first grandchild Avi was born. She threw herself into the role of “Nani”, reading, painting and taking Avi on nature walks in her favorite Calgary parks. Then Maya arrived in 2020, and Janice spent nearly every day with her daughter Daria and granddaughter, walking, reading stories and taking in each moment.

Janice will be most remembered for her generosity and kindness, her commitment to welcoming everyone and yearning for a world that would do the same. The energy and passion that Janice gave in every part of her life was beyond measure.

In addition to her loving husband Wayne, Janice is survived by Daria, her son-in-law Ryan, her two grandchildren and their devoted grandparents Henry, Cheryl and Lyle. Janice is also survived by sisters Dena and Dianne, as well as nieces, nephews, and many life-long friends all over the world.

Heartfelt thanks are extended to Dr. Sarah Glaze and her team at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, for their commitment to providing compassion and care over a six-year period.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Silver Springs Golf Course & Country Club (1600 Varsity Estates Dr NW, Calgary, AB T3B 2W9) on March 19, 2022, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Janice loved to go for walks with friends and watch other families enjoy their time in Confederation Park, particularly in the two years of Covid. She loved that the parks are for everyone. Donations can be made to Parks Foundation, Calgary at Donate — Parks Foundation Calgary (parksfdn.com) or to the Alberta Cancer Foundation/Tom Baker/Calgary Cancer Centre. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
