Obituary of Joyce May Goldsmith
May 18, 1929 – Alliance, Alberta
July 9, 2022 – Calgary, Alberta
On July 9, 2022, loving mother and wife, Joyce Goldsmith, left us peacefully to be with her husband Jimmy. Mom was born in Alliance, AB, in 1929 and moved to Calgary as a young teen. There she met and married her husband Jim, and their union would last sixty-three years They welcomed four children: Jim Goldsmith (Peggy), Judy Thomson, (Keith), Susan Snider (Greg) and Linda Hartley (Ron).
Her grandchildren will remember her smile and always kind words; Kyle (Carly), Kevin, Jenn (Carl), Jeff, Kelsey (Nathan), Aaron, Cathy (Jon) and Andrew (Sean). Great-grandchildren, Sarah, Joie, Ryan, Amy, Maverick, Kiera, and Sage will have fond memories of camping and family dinners with her.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Jim; sister Elaine Deakin; brothers Bill Helem and Bob Helem.
Our mother was never one to complain or gossip and did not allow fighting or unkind words in our house. This was taught at a young age and continued throughout our teen years. She will be remembered for her kindness, flaky pies and the hours spent sewing her young children’s wardrobe. She enjoyed the simpler things in life. Camping at the acreage dad bought and created for her was something she looked forward to in the summer. You could find mom peacefully reading a John Grisham book, sewing, or baking cookies in the winter. Family dinners and holidays were spent at the home her and dad built with love. Her door was always open and a pot of coffee on the stove. She will be missed and remembered with nothing but kindness
Funeral Services will be held at Calgary Crematorium Chapel, (3219 – 4th Street NW, within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Cemetery.
