Obituary of Helen Siew Fan Siong

It is with deep grief and sorrow that Helen Siong’s family announces her passing on Friday, July 22, 2022 at the age of 77.
Helen was born in Sibu, Sarawak, Malaysia on October 29, 1944, and was born third into a family of eleven siblings, during the last few years of WWII and the Japanese occupation. Those years, with the harsh realities of post-war life and its effect on young children, gave her a deeper love of life and care for the well-being of others, which led her to choose a career in nursing.
Helen continued her charitable works with underprivileged children in India, as well as in Canada. She also became heavily involved with her church community. She was a loving and caring mother and wife and will be missed by all the people she touched in her journey through life.
In this age, you live where your work takes you, her siblings were not privileged to share a big part of her life when she left for Canada and instead, were only able to enjoy short spells of time together, creating memories to be taken out every so often and savored to relive those precious moments. She will always be with us, in our hearts and in our memories.
Funeral Services will be held at Calgary Crematorium Chapel, (3219 – 4th Street NW, within the valley of Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at 2 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home Graveside Service to be held at Queens Park Cemetery on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed here.
