Obituary of Ernest MacDonald

Ernest Claude “Bud” MacDonald passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the age of 88 years.

 

Bud was born and raised in Calgary in the Bowness area. He enjoyed sports and attended Ole Miss in Mississippi where he played football and earned a degree in Forestry Management.

 

He returned to Calgary and worked in the mortgage business. He was very involved with Bantam Football. He also loved hockey and played for the Calgary Buffalos where he was captain. Later he played in the Old Timer’s Hockey League.

 

He was a longtime member of the Turner Valley Golf Club. He belonged to the Legion for many years, always helping with their poppy campaign.

 

He was a confirmed bachelor until his late 40s when he met his future wife, Aletta, whom he married at age 56. They remained married until her passing in 2013. He was also pre-deceased by his brother, Angus, and his sister, Cathy.

 

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at 11:15 a.m. Graveside Service to follow the reception at Union Cemetery.
