Astrid Twardowski beloved wife of the late Czeslaw Boleslaw Twardowski of 65 years, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the age of 86 years. Born to a Danish Ballerina and an Irish Sea Captain in Cheshire, England, Astrid was a destined for the theater. In her late teens, she joined the National Shakespeare Company in London. After appearing in several productions in England, she met and married Czeslaw and then immigrated to Calgary. While raising two children, she started writing articles and short stories for the Macleans Magazine and CBC, as well as writing book reviews and being an art critic for both the Albertan Newspaper and Canadian Arts Magazine. In the early 1970’s, Czeslaw and Astrid moved to Europe for a 10 year assignment with the United Nations. There, Astrid continued to write plays and saw various productions of her work come to life on stage. After returning to Canada, she returned to acting and went on tour with Stage West. She was finishing up a novel at the time of her passing. Astrid was a highly intelligent, vibrant and generous woman who loved to dance. She could always make people laugh and make people think. She loved her family and cared deeply for the numerous animals she adopted throughout her life. Astrid is survived by her children Alexandra, Witold and adopted daughter Tory Jackson; as well as many friends and admirers. Astrid was predeceased by Czeslaw her husband of 65 years. A private cremation will be held, followed by a memorial at a later date.
